This painting measures 60 x 60 inches with a 2.25 gold-leafed edge. I begin with graphite drawing on the wood surface, adding multiple layers of oil paint, washes, glazes, and metal-leaf. Each of my paintings has about 30 layers.
This painting is a celebration of my memories of hunting when I was younger. Afraid to ever pull the trigger, I still loved being in nature and up a tree-stand watching the hidden world come alive before me. These are the white-tail deer that populate the S.C. forests. Also pictured are ferns, mushrooms, and chickadees.
