Blue on Blue 60 x 60

Regular price  $ 9,800.00
Sale price  $ 9,800.00 Regular price  $ 0.00

Measuring in at 60 x 60 with a 2.25 inch edge, the antique blue/green background shows all the layers and brushwork of the paint. Each bird sits a little differently — some perched, some in mid step, each turned a different way.

I start with a graphite drawing on the wood, then build the painting through about thirty layers — oils, washes, glazes, and metal leaf.

“Blue on Blue”  Features the Blue Bird and White Flowers

Care & Cleaning

To help maintain your artwork’s quality and longevity over time:

  • Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry cloth
  • As an oil painting, it can handle sunlight - hang in low or bright light
  • Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents on the surface
  • Keep in a dry, climate-controlled environment - but bathrooms are absolutely fine
  • Handle with clean, dry hands
Why I make Art

"I believe that Art Makes Life Better. I grew up in rural South Carolina in a ramshackle farmhouse and I learned at an early age how fulfilling making artwork with own hands could be. All of my work is really a celebration of that - of noticing - taking in - and being surrounded by nature." - Joseph
